RMFC received IRB approval for Egg and Embryo Vitrification Freezing
There are two major types of Embryo and Gamete freezing techniques available to In Vitro Fertilization patients: Programmed Freezing and Vitrification. Programmed Freezing is a tried and true technique that is machine dependent and expensive. Vitrification is a newer technique that requires little machinery, is not subject to issues of power failure, but has not yet been “approved” by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine as a “standard of care” technique.
The recommendation is for centers to get IRB approval of the process. RMFC has IRB approval for this process. The benefits to patients are many: Egg Freezing for Cancer Patients or Female Military Soldiers. Embryo Freezing to help preserve options for future fertility if you already have a partner. Egg Freezing to preserve options for future fertility if you do not already have a partner.
